Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies

Welcome to the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies!
We aim to enhance quality of life for all through recreation services in a wide range of settings. We are one of three departments in the College of Health and Human Performance, and we offer undergraduate and graduate degrees in recreational therapy and recreation and park management; we also offer two graduate certificates: Aquatic Therapy and Biofeedback. We are linked with the Center for Sustainable Tourism, as well as the Institute for Coastal Science and Policy, Brody School of Medicine, and other interdisciplinary units. The RCLS department includes 18 faculty members and approximately 220 undergraduate and 50 graduate students. We are a rich and vibrant community of learners.

Important Information Regarding Degree Mills
Please watch this important video (http://youtu.be/a1voHNMQDrk) regarding degree and accreditation mills. According to CHEA, "Degree mills and accreditation mills mislead and harm. In the United States, degrees and certificates from mills may not be acknowledged by other institutions when students seek to transfer or go to graduate school. Employers may not acknowledge degrees and certificates from degree mills when providing tuition assistance for continuing education. "Accreditation" from an accreditation mill can mislead students and the public about the quality of an institution. In the presence of degree mills and accreditation mills, students may spend a good deal of money and receive neither an education nor a useable credential."
