Ever wonder what life was like for kids who lived at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue? In the summer of 1904, President Roosevelt just wants his three rambunctious children to be quiet and stay out of mischief. When he gives young Ethel, Kermit, and Archie a copy of Treasure Island, out falls a real-life treasure map! Following clue after clue, the threesome has to work as a team, solve the riddles, and face their fears as they learn White House history that leads them from the Red Room, to the President’s Office, to the Lincoln Bedroom. But will their father’s loyal valet or the new English governess foil their quest? Who is Jura Roams? What is the White House treasure? Where will the clues lead? And who is the ghost talking to Archie?

Katie Couric’s The Brand New Kid
Adapted for the stage by Melanie Marnich, music by Michael Friedman
Lyrics by Marnich and Friedman, directed by Nick Olcott
Friday, March 14, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.
It’s the first day of second grade! Ricky, Peter, Ellie, and Carrie are all excited to start the school year in the city of Delasky, but Lazlo S. Gasky isn’t sure about being the new kid at Brookhaven School. His new classmates aren’t so sure about him either. Lazlo is a typical seven-year old boy, but with an un-Delaskian accent, un-Delaskian hair, and un-Delaskian manners; his classmates think that a new kid in Delasky is just too weird in a place that’s all the same. When Ellie decides that she’s going to spend an afternoon with Lazlo, she discovers that not only is he a neat kid, with his noodles and strudels and a poodle named Doodle, but that he isn’t so different from her and her friends after all. But actually, all the kids are different from each other, and if they realize that, they might also learn that their uniqueness is what makes Delasky a happier place—can Ellie make her friends see that? An uplifting musical!
