IN-STORE RENTAL PROGRAM

Students can now RENT textbooks at ECU Dowdy Student Stores for select courses! Please consider participating in this cost-saving initiative, when you determine the textbooks for your courses.  Instructors must agree to use the textbook for multiple semesters, 2 years is preferred, and without a unique key code, in order to make the program cost-effective for the bookstore. Renting a textbook usually costs 60% less than purchasing the book.

HALF-BACK GUARANTEE

Similar to the rental program, but slightly more flexible, with the ECU Dowdy Student Stores' Half-Back Guarantee program, your students' textbooks are essentially half the price if they sell them back at the end of the semester. By identifying books that can be used for 2 years, and do not contain a unique key code for web-based materials. The Dowdy Student Store textbook department will work with you, checking publication schedules for new editions, etc. If your book qualifies, a Half-Back Guarantee sticker will be placed on the book, alerting students that at the end of the semester they will be given 50% of the selling price back in cash.

DIGITAL TEXTBOOKS

To find out if your course textbook is available in digital format (eTextbook), go to the ECU Dowdy Student Stores web site and click on the CourseSmart link. This is an ECU partner vendor that works with many of our textbook publishers to make these lower-cost textbook alternatives available to students. Please use the link from the Dowdy Student Stores web site so that ECU will get credit for the sale.  ALSO, when talking with students about digital format textbooks, be sure to point out that they have no resale value, and that duplicating materials from a digital textbook is an illegal copyright infringement.

COURSE PACKS

If you have any questions about Course Pack production, please call Shirley Johnson at Dowdy Student Stores, 328-6731, or email her at Johnsonsh@ecu.edu. Information is available on the Student Store web site.

If you run into any problems concerning any class materials, please don't hesitate to contact the Dowdy Student Stores for assistance.

Book Buyback program where you can sell your textbooks to be sold next semester or on the used book program for other colleges and universities.

East Carolina is working with NC State and UNC-Chapel Hill in a collaborative book buyback service! If your textbook isn't being used at ECU, but is needed at State or Carolina, we'll buy it back from you for them! You'll get more cash than if it was just being bought for the general used book market!!

If your textbook is part of the Dowdy Student Store In-Store RENTAL Program, remember to return your book at the end of the rental program.   If your book is part of the Half-Back Guarantee program, do NOT remove the sticker from the textbook. These books can be sold back at the end of the semester for 50% of the purchase price! (See store for program details)
