Dean's Welcome

On behalf of the faculty and staff of the School of Art at East Carolina University, please accept my sincerest welcome to our program. The information here should convince you of the merits of this school. I wish to emphasize that we are a fully accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. Our current accreditation period runs until the year 2003. To gain the distinction of specialized accreditation in the visual arts, a program must subject itself to rigorous, outside peer review. This study results in a curriculum that is tested, proven and accepted as logical and sound. The East Carolina University School of Art first achieved accreditation in 1962 and has been employing national standards in its course work ever since.

For foundation students, this not only means a systematic and ordered program of study, but also the inclusion of related experiences such as a visiting artist/speaker series, an active gallery schedule, impressive physical facilities and international opportunities with established programs in Wales, Estonia, Italy and Germany.
