Presidential Visit

More than 9,000 people filled Minges Coliseum on the campus of East Carolina University, Wednesday, April 11, 2001, to listen to a speech by President George W. Bush.  Bush was introduced by Chancellor Richard Eakin, who presented the former majority owner of the Texas Rangers an ECU baseball team jersey.  His visit to the campus was the first by a sitting U.S. president and he drew a record crowd.  An ECU Marching Pirates Presidential Band was formed to provide entertainment for the event.
