Nick Nichols
Drumline Instructor
A native of Belmont, NC, Nick
has served as the Battery Instructor and Percussion
Coordinator for the
North Lincoln High School "Band of Knights" since
January 2007. While at North Lincoln, Nick was the battery
percussion arranger for the marching band, as well as the
visual designer for the "NL Black" indoor percussion
ensemble, who received medals at every appearance in the
Carolina Indoor Performance Association Championships. Upon
the conclusion of the Indoor Drumline season, Nick directed
the NL Black Concert Percussion Ensemble and received
consistent Superior ratings in regional Solo and Ensemble
festivals.
Nick attended
Western Carolina University, graduating in May of 2006 with a
Bachelor of Science in Communication and a minor in Music. He
worked in the Radio Industry in Charlotte, NC for two years,
before realizing that his true passion was Music and Percussion.
He then went back to school at the University of North Carolina
at Charlotte, to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Music,
concentrating in Percussion and Composition.
While at Western Carolina
University, Nick performed with the
"Pride of the Mountains" Marching Band, as a member of
the Drumline from 2002-2005, playing snare drum. He also
performed with the Percussion Ensemble and toured North
Carolina with the Big Band and Jazz Combo, playing drumset.
At the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Nick has
performed with the Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Combos and
served as Principal Percussionist for the Symphonic Wind
Ensemble. Nick has studied percussion privately with Mr.
Rick Dior and Mr. Rick Cline, as well as studied Composition
and Arranging with Dr. John Allemeier. Nick has also
performed with the Carolina Thunder Entertainment Percussion
and has been a sought-after musician for various local music
groups, artists and churches in the Charlotte area.
Along with serving as the
Instructor of the ECU Marching Pirates Drumline, Nick also
serves as a clinician, instructor, and arranger for several
high school percussion programs in the Eastern region. He is
also the Ensemble Director for the newly-formed
Forza East
Independent Percussion, based out of Greenville, NC, and
competing under the umbrella organization of Winter Guard
International.
Nick currently resides in New Bern, NC with his wife, Laura,
and their dog Murphy.
