A memory book was created to honor Dr. and Mrs. Eakin for their gracious service at East Carolina University over the years.  The ECU Marching Pirates showed their appreciation by creating a page that was compiled in the book and given to the Eakins on March 7, 2001.  This was our opportunity to say thank you for supporting the ECU Marching Pirates.

A note from Chancellor Richard R. Eakin:
Dear members of the Marching Pirates:  Thank you so very much for the parade across campus the night before Founders Day.  The carriage ride with your musical accompaniment was wonderful.  We will treasure the memory.  The Marching Pirates exemplify the spirit and splendor of our great University.  Over the years, I have seen the Marching Pirates grow both in numbers and quality.  To me there is none finer.  There is no more thrilling moment for Jo and me than when the Marching Pirates strike up the band.  Warm, best wishes.  Dick Eakin
