Eighth Annual ECU Marching Pirates Family Day

The 2009 East Carolina University football season is quickly approaching and the East Carolina University Marching Pirates will soon begin band camp!  We will have our first performance on Saturday, September 5 at home in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium when ECU plays Appalachian State University in a regionally-televised game.  As the new director of the ECU Marching Pirates, I am excited to meet all of the students and their friends and family!  This season promises to be an exciting one as our football team is set to defend their Conference USA championship as well as compete against several teams ranked in the Top 25.

As a parent of a university band member you are aware of the time, energy and dedication these students commit to this program.  Those of us associated with ECU Bands are also very aware of your dedication and commitment that has allowed your children to participate in a program such as this.  In appreciation of your efforts and to provide you an opportunity to be involved, I would like to invite you to our eighth annual ECU Marching Pirates Parents Family Day on September 26.  Kick-off of the ECU-UCF game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.  We will have an open rehearsal at 11 a.m., followed by lunch at 12:30 p.m. on College Hill Field for all members of the ECU Marching Pirates and their families.  We will then parade to the stadium at 2:00 for the 3:30 kick-off.  Tickets for the game are available through the ECU Ticket Office at 252-328-4500, or through their website at www.ecupirates.com.

Lunch is on us!  Just let us know by Tuesday, September 22 if you’d like to attend, and we’ll make sure there is plenty for everyone!  You may return the form below to the band office, or e-mail the information to me at franklin@ecu.edu.  Since we are ordering and paying for meals in advance from the band budget, we will need to know the exact number of people you’ll be bringing.  If that number changes by Tuesday, September 22 please let us know so we can change the order.

I hope you’ll allow us to welcome you into our ECU Marching Pirates family.  We look forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,

Dr. John Franklin, Director of Athletic Bands
