Melinda Mann, ECU Marching Pirates Feature Twirler 1996-1999Heidi Brown, ECU Marching Pirates Feature Twirler 2000-2003Courtney Stearn, ECU Marching Pirates Feature 2004-2009

The East Carolina University Marching Pirates Feature Twirler auditions are comprised of two audition "rounds".  The first audition is a videotape submission.  Tapes should be mailed to the ECU Band office.   There is no required routine for this video.  Each candidate should place on this video those routines and/or twirling material that they feel best represents their abilities.  Videos taken at other performances (ie: competitions, field performances with marching bands, etc.) are allowed.

The candidate's contact information (e-mail, mailing address, phone number) should also be included with the video submission.

Videos will be judged, and from these results, candidates will be selected and invited to a second audition - which will be held at the ECU campus.  The basis for selection and invitation to the second audition is that the candidate shows in their video the potential to twirl at the college level in a large stadium atmosphere.  Please send your video to the following address:

When invited to the second audition, candidates will receive more detailed information about how to prepare.  However, for the second audition, candidates will be asked to perform their solo routine and then a second routine of their choice in front of a panel of judges.  There is no time limit placed on either of these routines.  The audition will be held outside, unless inclement weather prevents this, in which case the audition will be held in an indoor facility.   Areas that are considered in judging include:  showmanship, speed, difficulty, poise/balance, variety and "showiness" (that is, will the work "show" in a large football stadium).

Questions about the auditions should be directed to
Dr. Franklin.
