Scott Carter, Director of the ECU Wind Ensemble
Scott
Carter is assistant professor of music at East Carolina University where
he also directs the Wind Ensemble, teaches conducting and is the
resident conductor for the East Carolina Playhouse and Summer Theatre.
The East Carolina Wind Ensemble has premiered compositions by such
outstanding composers as Vincent Persichetti, Martin Mailman and Karel
Husa. Dr. Carter's performances have drawn praise from such diverse
composers as Ron Nelson, Daniel Pinkham and David Diamond. He is the
former Director of Bands at Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC.
Prior to that he was a Doctoral Conducting Associate at the University
of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music where he was a conducting
student of Eugene Corporon, During his tenure in Cincinnati he performed
on two compact disc recordings, Made in America and Hearts
Music. These performances have received critical acclaim. Dr. Carter
holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from East Carolina University and
the Doctor of Music Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati,
College-Conservatory of Music. He has extensive public school
experience, having taught instrumental music in Rocky Mount, North
Carolina. During his time there, he was awarded the North Carolina Band
Association's Award of Excellence and was the Southeastern United States
winner of the Stanbury Award for Teaching Excellence. Under his
leadership as Music Director, the Rocky Mount High School Marching Band
won 3 Bands of America Grand National Championships.
