Brandon Martel
Graduate Assistant

Brandon Martel was raised in Cary, NC and attended Cary High School. He earned his bachelor's degree in music education from ECU. During his time at ECU, Brandon studied trombone with George Broussard, conducted the Marching Pirates as an assistant drum major, and studied composition. He graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2010, and was named "Outstanding Music Education Major" of his graduating class.

Brandon began working as the band director at Southern Nash High School in Bailey, NC in the fall of 2010. Brandon conducted the concert, marching, jazz, and pep bands and assisted with the choir program. The Southern Nash Marching Firebirds earned several awards under his direction, and the concert band earned a "Superior" rating at the Eastern District MPA in 2012. Under Brandon's direction, the jazz band performed at the 2012 Thelonious Monk Family Reunion in Rocky Mount, NC. Brandon also founded the Southern Nash Winterguard and Indoor Percussion programs.

Brandon is returning to ECU to pursue a master's degree in conducting.
