Chesley Black (Chess)
Drum Major Instructor/Webmaster
While an
undergraduate student at ECU, Chess was a member of the
Marching Pirates for five years, serving several years as
Head Drum Major. He has 15 years of experience teaching
drum majors at the high school, university and drum corps
level... and has been involved with the marching band activity
for a total of 19 years. He is currently on staff as the
Drum Major Instructor of the
ECU Marching Pirates
and also the
North Lincoln High School “Band of Knights” in
Lincolnton, NC and the
East
Lincoln High School "Mustang Band" in Denver, NC. He is also an active clinician and
adjudicator for several programs and competitions across the
state. Chess has also been the
Webmaster since the fall of 1999.
Chess has been on staff at
Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, NC since 2004. He is currently the Director of Campus Services, overseeing
the departments of Information Technology,
Facilities Management, Printing & Mailing Services and the
Bookstore. He received a Master of Science in Instructional
Technology degree, a Graduate Certificate in Performance
Improvement, a Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration degree with a concentration in Management
Information Systems and a Certificate in Business and
Technical Communication from East Carolina University.
