Dustin Chilson
Graduate Assistant
A Native of Southern California, Dustin Chilson is a recent
graduate of the
University
of Arizona where he double majored in both music
education and tuba performance. Dustin has studied with
several notable musicians, including Dr. Kelly Thomas of the
University of Arizona and Mike Becker of the Tucson Symphony
Orchestra. In addition to his studies at the U of A, Dustin
has performed several challenging solo recitals with works
by notable composers such as Paul Hindemith, Alec Wilder,
Jacques Castérède, and Anthony Plog.
During his time at the University, Dustin has performed in
several ensembles both on the University campus and off
campus. During the spring of 2006, he traveled to Alamos,
Mexico with the Arizona Symphony Orchestra. While in
Mexico, he was able to learn a lot about Mexican culture and
got to perform at one of their largest music festivals. Furthermore, during that same spring he performed with the
Catalina Chamber Orchestra, premiering a new chamber piece
composed by a local Tucson composer. Other ensembles that
Dustin has performed with include the University of Arizona
Wind Ensemble, the University of Arizona Wind Symphony, the
University of Arizona Philharmonic, the Arizona Symphonic
Winds, and several small ensembles. In the spring of 2009,
Dustin was again a member of the Arizona Symphony Orchestra
performing notable works including Mahler’s Symphony No. 1
and Cereus by
Roshanne Etezady. Dustin is an active member of the Tuba
Cats, a University of Arizona Tuba/Euphonium ensemble that
has performed at a variety of different venues ranging from
the 2008 International Tuba/Euphonium Conference in
Cincinnati, Ohio to the Oktoberfest in Tucson, AZ.
In addition to his busy performing schedule, Dustin is an
active participant in his community as a volunteer and a
certified music educator. He volunteers at a local church
helping out with their Christmas and Easter musicals and
also works for a local Tucson high school rehearsing their
brass sections.
