Dustin Chilson
Graduate Assistant

A Native of Southern California, Dustin Chilson is a recent graduate of the University of Arizona where he double majored in both music education and tuba performance. Dustin has studied with several notable musicians, including Dr. Kelly Thomas of the University of Arizona and Mike Becker of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his studies at the U of A, Dustin has performed several challenging solo recitals with works by notable composers such as Paul Hindemith, Alec Wilder, Jacques Castérède, and Anthony Plog.

During his time at the University, Dustin has performed in several ensembles both on the University campus and off campus. During the spring of 2006, he traveled to Alamos, Mexico with the Arizona Symphony Orchestra. While in Mexico, he was able to learn a lot about Mexican culture and got to perform at one of their largest music festivals. Furthermore, during that same spring he performed with the Catalina Chamber Orchestra, premiering a new chamber piece composed by a local Tucson composer. Other ensembles that Dustin has performed with include the University of Arizona Wind Ensemble, the University of Arizona Wind Symphony, the University of Arizona Philharmonic, the Arizona Symphonic Winds, and several small ensembles. In the spring of 2009, Dustin was again a member of the Arizona Symphony Orchestra performing notable works including Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 and Cereus by Roshanne Etezady. Dustin is an active member of the Tuba Cats, a University of Arizona Tuba/Euphonium ensemble that has performed at a variety of different venues ranging from the 2008 International Tuba/Euphonium Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio to the Oktoberfest in Tucson, AZ.

In addition to his busy performing schedule, Dustin is an active participant in his community as a volunteer and a certified music educator. He volunteers at a local church helping out with their Christmas and Easter musicals and also works for a local Tucson high school rehearsing their brass sections.
