Kipp Hodnett
Trumpet Teaching Assistant/
Administration Assistant
A native of Richmond, VA, Kipp Hodnett grew up in Eastern
North Carolina where he began his musical career playing
trumpet in the school band program in Washington, NC in
1993, and began his marching career in 1995. Shortly
thereafter, an interest in the drum and bugle corps led him
to experiences earning him spots with both
Tarheel Sun and
Carolina Crown, though situations led to an inability to
tour: finally touring with
Carolina Gold in 2005.
He has taught and designed drill for several local area high
schools, and has been on brass staff for
Carolina Gold
and drill designer for Platinum Drum & Bugle Corps. His passion for teaching was pursued after a few years when
he began attending East Carolina University in 2003, earning
a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 2007. After
a short stint teaching, he is now pursuing a Master’s in
Music Performance with a dual concentration in Instrumental
Conducting and Trumpet Performance.
His approach to teaching synergizes approaches from the
great pedagogues, and fuses them with a desire to teach the
student to teach themselves. He looks forward to
returning to an involvement with the ECU Marching Pirates
and cheering on the ECU football team for the upcoming
season.
