Nick Nichols
Drumline Instructor

A native of Belmont, NC, Nick has served as the Battery Instructor and Percussion Coordinator for the North Lincoln High School "Band of Knights" since January 2007. While at North Lincoln, Nick was the battery percussion arranger for the marching band, as well as the visual designer for the "NL Black" indoor percussion ensemble, who received medals at every appearance in the Carolina Indoor Performance Association Championships. Upon the conclusion of the Indoor Drumline season, Nick directed the NL Black Concert Percussion Ensemble and received consistent Superior ratings in regional Solo and Ensemble festivals.

Nick attended Western Carolina University, graduating in May of 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Communication and a minor in Music. He worked in the Radio Industry in Charlotte, NC for two years, before realizing that his true passion was music and percussion. He then went back to school at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Music, concentrating in percussion and composition.

While at Western Carolina University, Nick performed with the "Pride of the Mountains" Marching Band, as a member of the Drumline from 2002-2005, playing snare drum. He also performed with the Percussion Ensemble and toured North Carolina with the Big Band and Jazz Combo, playing drumset. At the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Nick has performed with the Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Combos and served as Principal Percussionist for the Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Nick has studied percussion privately with Mr. Rick Dior and Mr. Rick Cline, as well as studied composition and arranging with Dr. John Allemeier. Nick has also performed with the Carolina Thunder Entertainment Percussion and has been a sought-after musician for various local music groups, artists and churches in the Charlotte area.

Along with serving as the Instructor for the ECU Marching Pirates Drumline, Nick also serves as a clinician, instructor and arranger for several high school percussion programs in the Eastern region. He is also the Ensemble Director for the newly-formed Forza East Independent Percussion, based out of Greenville, NC, and competing under the umbrella organization of Winter Guard International.

Nick currently resides in New Bern, NC with his wife, Laura, and their dog Murphy.
