William Staub
Associate Director of Bands and
Director of the ECU Marching Pirates
William Staub is the new
Associate Director
of Bands and Director of the ECU Marching Pirates at East Carolina University. His responsibilities
include conducting the Symphonic Band, teaching courses in
the School of Music, and directs all aspects of the ECU
Athletic Bands, including the ECU Marching Pirates.
Prior to arriving at ECU,
Mr. Staub was the Assistant Director of Bands at
Iowa State University.
His responsibilities included assisting with the
Cyclone Marching Band,
directing the Concert Band and Women's Basketball Band, and
teaching in the Department of Music.
In addition to his
responsibilities at East Carolina University, Mr. Staub is
also pursuing his doctorate of music from
Northwestern University
where he is a conducting student of Mallory Thompson. He
holds a master’s degree in conducting from
Michigan State University
where he was a student of Kevin Sedatole. Mr. Staub received
his undergraduate degree from Arizona
State University
where he studied euphonium with Sam Pilafian and conducting
with Gary Hill.
Mr. Staub taught public
school in Austin, Texas for a number of years at Grisham
Middle School. While there, he co-conducted the Grisham
Middle School Symphony Orchestra at their performance at the
Texas Music Educators Association Convention.
In 2010, he received an
invitation to the second annual West Point Conducting
Workshop where he conducted the West Point Band in concert
on John Corigliano’s Gazebo Dances. In 2007, Mr. Staub
received an invitation to the Conductor's Guild first annual
Frederick Fennell Memorial Conducting Workshop held at the
Eastman School of Music
in Rochester, New York. In 2011, he was inducted as an
honorary member to the
Iowa State
University chapter
of
Tau Beta
Sigma.
