rules & law
Parking & Transportation Services is honored to be working with a local not-for-profit group called Building Hope. This group works with teenagers from the community by teaching them a trade. Lucky for our department, the trade they teach is bike repair! This group provides the teenage workers to a local bicycle shop, the Recycle Bicycle Shop, who then in turn, provide our campus with basic bicycle maintenance and repairs every week free of charge to the customers. We call it the Bike Clinic, and our department gladly covers all the costs for this wonderful cause as well as for the continuing safety of the ECU cycling community.
The workshops are normally held on Fridays at the back of the Campus Recreation Center - at the loading dock entrance closest to Cotanche Street. The fall workshops will run during the months of September - November and the spring workshops will run from March - May. These workshops are growing in popularity, so make sure you continue to check the event calendar as we may offer more workshops on other days for your convenience in the future! We might even go mobile!
During these workshops, your bike will be checked for adjustments with the brakes, given a thorough tire inspection, and ensured that your bike's chain is well lubricated - rust can really damage a bike let alone make it extremely dangerous for you to ride! If further repairs are needed that cannot be provided during the allotted times for the free campus clinics, then individuals can always make additional appointments with the Recycle Bike Shop. Applicable fees will apply for any additional appointments.
