Scenarios for Course Copies and Course Collapses

Why is it recommended that I do my own course section merge/collapse?

Answer: You are in control. The time frame is also shorter; the merge is done immediately, rather than being on the section merge waiting list for Blackboard Support.

Does it take long to do my own section merge?

Answer: No, it takes less than 1-2 minutes to choose the courses and complete the process.

How long before I see the merged sections and the student enrollments?

Answer: Immediately.

What if I decide I want to un-merge my course sections?

Answer: It is easy to disassociate your sections. Watch the video or look at the PDF for instructions.

Merge – Often referred to as "collapse"
Merged Course – Or the "Parent" Course, the Blackboard course you are collapsing into.
Source Course – The section(s) that you are collapsing into the parent site, also known as the "child."
Example – You want to merge/collapse sections HLTH 002/003 into section 001 for Fall 2012:

001 – Merged (or parent) course section
002/003 – Source (or child) courses
The result: HLTH1000001/002/003201280

Disassociate – "un-merge"

Because of the ease and speed of doing your own course copies and section merges, we encourage you to do your own copies and merges. However, if you are uncomfortable doing so, please send an email to ecublackboard@ecu.edu with your request. Expect a confirmation reply from us within 24-48 hours. Please include the following in your email:

Course Copy: Include the full course ID for both source AND destination courses. For example, a full course ID looks like this: ITEC4444001201530.

Section Merge: Include the full course ID with both or all section numbers to be included in the merge, specifying which course is the “parent” course. Thank you.
