APPLICATION PROCEDURE
The Brody School of Medicine participates in the
American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS). Application forms
are available via the Internet at www.aamc.org/students. Applications
for the class which matriculates each fall must be submitted to AMCAS
no later than November 15 of the preceding year.
The AMCAS application is used as a preliminary application form by the
Brody School of Medicine. Each applicant will be notified upon receipt
of his or her application, and, in selected cases, will be requested to
submit a Supplementary Application.
Applicants who are asked to complete Supplementary Application materials will be notified via e-mail of the web address to access these materials.
Required components of the electronic Supplementary Application include:
- Supplementary Application,
- Statement of Residence,
- 300-500 word essay reflecting the applicant’s
reasons for desiring medical study, future professional aspirations,
his/her areas of avocational interest, and major reactions to contemporary
life experienced during the past several years,
- Recent passport size photograph (appropriate
for a professional school application) that can be scanned and submitted
electronically,
- $60 application fee that is non-refundable,
non-deductible and subject to change (presently the School of Medicine
is not able to accept this fee electronically so either personal check
or money order should be mailed to: Cashier’s Office, Brody School of
Medicine, East Carolina University, Brody 1N-16, 600 Moye Blvd., Greenville,
NC 27834). Check or Money Order should include applicant’s social security
number.
Each applicant is required to have submitted on his/her behalf either three individual evaluations from faculty who have taught the applicant coursework or a single recommendation from the school’s professional committee. If desired, a few additional personal, character, or employment references may be submitted. Applicants should be aware that personal, character, or employment references do not substitute for the required three academic letters (or school’s professional committee).
The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is required of all applicants.
Test results which are more than three years old at the time of application
will not be considered. Therefore, for applications to the 2008-entering
class that are received during the summer and fall of 2007, MCAT scores
from April 2004 to August 2007 will be valid.
