The Business Communication Center (BCC) believes communication is the lifeblood of business. Communication isn't merely disseminating information. It's creating and maintaining relationships. The BCC coaches College of Business (COB) students in communication skills and provides support as students prepare for their careers. BCC services include:
  • Individual and small group consultations
  • Monthly workshops in communication skills
  • Evaluation of classroom presentations
  • Online resources and tutorials

Our goal is to strengthen the communication skills of business students through workshops, class instruction, coaching, partnerships with faculty, and online tutorials. BCC provides an integrated approach to coaching COB students in presentational speaking and professional writing. For instance, BCC has developed instructional materials for the Strategy First (BUSI 1200), Leadership I (BUSI 2200), and Leadership II (BUSI 3200) courses in the new Leadership and Professional Development Program.

We look forward to your visits to our website and the Business Communication Center at 3209 Bate.

BCC Monthly Examples of Business Presentations
Our website will frequently host speeches from students as well as the business community. For example, TED Conferences provide an opportunity for the world's most fascinating thinkers to give the talk of their lives. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. However, its scope has become broader. TED holds annual conferences in Long Beach, California, USA; Oxford, UK; and Mysore, India.
The video below demonstrates the power underlying great presentations. This video is distributed under a Creative Commons (CC) License. Please visit the award-winning TEDTalks for more insightful videos.

E-Review and Appointment Guidelines
Because preparation is fundamental to successful communication, we do not schedule appointments or review materials 72 hours before an assignment's due date.

Electronic Submissions
We review presentations, written documents, and digital videos. A submission should include the assignment's description and its target audience. For written documents, we may limit our review to five pages due to demands on our services.
Although we do not serve as editors, we will proofread the first three pages to serve as guidelines for you to proofread and edit other pages.
For digital videos, send a sample file (.avi, .swf, or .wmv). Due to the size of video files, please limit the sample to one (1) minute for an individual presentation and five (5) minutes for group presentations.

Appointments
Monday through Thursday, our appointment hours (face-to-face and DE) are 8:30am to 4:30pm. We also will meet with graduate students during the evening. Evening and DE appointments must be scheduled 48 hours in advance. We use Skype or Centra for DE coaching.

You can also request an appointment regarding a specific assignment, but we will not schedule your first appointment for an assignment within a 72 hour-window of its due date.

Please e-mail us to request an appointment.
