Policy Statement 4: Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Compliance


The University is an "Equal Opportunity Employer through affirmative action" as established in the provisions of the:
  1. Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Executive Order 11246 with all supplemental guidelines thereto;

  2. Equal Pay Act of 1963;

  3. Title IX of the Educational Amendments Act;

  4. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act, as amended;

  5. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act;

  6. Vietnam Era Veterans' Readjustment Assistance Act;

  7. Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978;

  8. Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973; and

  9. American with Disabilities Act.

It is a Policy of the University throughout the campus and all its branches, divisions, departments, facilities, and activities that firm and positive steps be taken by all supervisory and management personnel to prevent any discriminatory employment practices, and that affirmative action will be taken to insure that applicants for employment are considered and employed based upon actual job requirements; and that all personnel matters pertaining to employment, placement, training, upgrading, promotion, demotion, transfer, layoff, termination, and salary administration will be administered on a non-discriminatory basis without regard to race, sex, age, creed, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or disability.

    Please refer to the East Carolina University Affirmative Action Plan for the total EEO program. Copies of the current plan are available in Joyner Library, Health Sciences Library, Equal Opportunity Programs Office, and the Department of Human Resources.

    The Equal Employment Opportunity Program is supervised by the EEO Officer who reports to the Chancellor. This individual is assisted by the Associate EEO Officer.
