Policy Statement 1: Information Technology Consulting
Information Technology Support Services (ITS) provides leadership, management, and
support services to integrate computing technologies at East Carolina
University. ITS is committed as a team to create an information technology
infrastructure that facilitates access to information, problem resolution, and
foresight in alignment with the academic missions and administrative functions
of the campus. Our mission is to meet and exceed client expectations for
dependability, professionalism, efficiency, and quality of technology
leadership.
In support of this mission, ITS offers three distinct services:
- IT Help Desk- Provides clients with a single point of
contact for all IT service related issues for the entire University community.
Client inquiries or service requests are resolved immediately or escalated to
the appropriate support team. IT Support Services can be contacted at 328-9866
or http://help.ecu.edu.
- Desktop Services - Provides complete desktop hardware/software and
peripheral support for PC's and Macintosh systems. Desktop services include
installation, troubleshooting and configuration for: operating systems,
network connectivity and applications. This team performs project
management/coordination for large-scale hardware and software rollouts.
- Support Services - Develops and promotes the use of new
technologies to enable the university community to provide quality classroom
instruction and administrative support in the modern workplace. Some of the
services offered include:
- Consulting - This involves direct consultation with faculty,
staff and students focusing on the integration of computing technologies
into the classroom and educational process. This service provides technical
consultation in the areas of desktop/server configuration, operating systems
and various software applications.
- Training - This service provides training for all desktop and
academic mainframe supported applications. Included in this service are the
development, instruction and publishing of subjects ranging from office
productivity tools to statistical software packages. In addition to printed
documentation, this team provides access to web-based training materials
available for use by all faculty, staff, and students.
