Policy Statement 1: General Policies

Official Rulings

It is the policy of the ECU Police Department to enforce federal, state and local statutes pertaining to criminal acts and the operation of motor vehicles on the campus consistently, fairly, and with respect for the constitutional rights of all citizens. The department is also required to insure compliance with any Federal, State, or local laws and regulations pertaining to the safety and welfare of those on the property of the University. The department is committed to providing an environment where community policing is embraced.

  We approach service in an ethical, honest, and consistent manner.

• THE CONSTITUTION ALWAYS COMES FIRST
  We shall uphold this country's democratic values as embodied in the Constitution and dedicate ourselves to the preservation of life, individual freedom, and justice for everyone.

• WE RECOGNIZE THE VALUE AND WORTH OF EACH MEMBER OF THE EAST CAROLINA UNIVERSITY POLICE DEPARTMENT AND SEEK THEIR INPUT
  We recognize that seeking input from members of the East Carolina University Police Department is the key ingredient to the success of the organization.

  We shall strive to cooperate with each other to build consensus on common direction for the security of the university and actively seek to build participation and involvement with students, staff, and faculty in all aspects of policing.

  We are knowledgeable about our duties and obligations and seek to perform them to the best of our abilities. We take responsibility for our actions and we shall remain answerable to each other and to the public for our actions.
