Master of Arts (MAT) Family and Consumer Sciences

The MAT is offered via the College of Education. The Department of Child Development and Family Relations offers the family and consumer sciences content option for the degree. Students must meet the collaborative criteria for program and degree requirements and process via the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, College of Education and the Department of Child Development and Family Relations, College of Human Ecology.  This program leads to a Master’s degree in teaching with initial licensure.  This is a year-long program commencing during Summer Session 1 and concluding Summer Session 2, the following year.  Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible for a N. C. teaching license with specialty area of Family and Consumer Science. 

This is a minimum 39-semester hour program. Following is the plan of study for the MAT:

TCHR 6020 – MAT Classroom Management
TCHR 6024 – MAT Internship
TCHR 6030 – Literacy Development in the Content Area Classroom
SPED 6000 – Teaching Students with Exceptionalities in the Regular Classroom
