Dr. Jennifer Hodgson
Associate Professor, Child Development and Family Relations
Dr. Jennifer Hodgson, an ECU faculty member since 2000, teaches mainly masters and doctoral students in the marriage and family therapy and medical family programs. She is also a Behavioral Medicine Specialist at the ECU Brody School of Medicine's Department of Family Medicine where she teaches and trains family medicine residents and medical family therapists in integrated and biopsychosocial healthcare. Her research interests are strongly grounded in the area of medical family therapy and integrating it into primary care settings. She received her undergraduate in Psychology from University of Akron, MS in marriage and family therapy from Northern Illinois University, and my PhD in marriage and family therapy from Iowa State University. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in medical family therapy at The University of Rochester's School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester New York. Winner of numerous academic and community awards, she was recently appointed by the Governor to the North Carolina Licensure Board for Marriage and Family Therapists and was re-elected to serve as a Commissioner for the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education.
Dr. Hodgson's personal passions include supporting the local Parkinson's Disease Support Group, the future of integrated healthcare, and the advancement of family therapy as a profession and its importance in medical settings (which is also evident in her professional activities). A favorite quote of Dr. Hodgson’s is “tell the people you love and respect what a difference they make in your world.”
