  Dr. Jennifer Hodgson

Associate Professor, Child Development and Family Relations

Dr. Jennifer Hodgson, an ECU faculty member since 2000, teaches   mainly masters and doctoral students in the marriage and family   therapy and medical family programs. She is also a Behavioral   Medicine Specialist at the ECU Brody School of Medicine's Department   of Family Medicine where she teaches and trains family medicine   residents and medical family therapists in integrated and   biopsychosocial healthcare. Her research interests are strongly   grounded in the area of medical family therapy and integrating it   into   primary care settings. She received her undergraduate in Psychology   from University of Akron, MS in marriage and family therapy from Northern Illinois University, and my PhD in marriage and family therapy from Iowa State University. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in medical family therapy at The University of Rochester's School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester New York. Winner of numerous academic and community awards, she was recently appointed by the Governor to the North Carolina Licensure Board for Marriage and Family Therapists and was re-elected to serve as a Commissioner for the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education.

Dr. Hodgson's personal passions include supporting the local Parkinson's Disease Support Group, the future of integrated healthcare, and the advancement of family therapy as a profession and its importance in medical settings (which is also evident in her professional activities). A favorite quote of Dr. Hodgson’s is “tell the people you love and respect what a difference they make in your world.”
