Welcome to the Department of Child Development and Family Relations (CDFR). If you are interested in learning how children develop or how to work with children and families, then we have a program for you. Career opportunities in Child Development and Family Relations are as varied as our programs. Graduates from our programs are prepared to serve as professionals for children and families. Career opportunities exist in private and public service agencies, public and private schools, child care programs, and healthcare settings.
We offer students model teacher training in early childhood education and family and consumer sciences education with practicum and internships in our ECU Child Development Laboratory, local schools, and community agencies. Students in our Marriage and Family Therapy and Medical Family Therapy programs have the opportunity to complete their internships in our Family Therapy Clinic located across from ECU’s main campus. There are also several student organizations that are for our CDFR students. We also offer our two graduate teacher education programs completely on-line.
