The MAEd in Family and Consumer Sciences is designed for individuals who already hold teaching licenses in family and consumer sciences. The curriculum is designed to help teachers develop advanced competencies in professional education, family and consumer sciences subject matter, and interpersonal relationships. Graduates are prepared to be more highly qualified teachers with leadership and communication skills which prepare them for department head or Cooperative Extension leadership positions, and leadership positions in business and industry. The MAEd-FACS program requires 39 semester hours (s.h.) consisting of: 6 s.h. cognate courses, 21 s.h. FACS specialization courses, and 3 s.h. of electives.

Admission Requirements:
Admission to the program is based on the following:
1. A completed ECU graduate application.
2. Official transcripts from schools attended and an overall GPA of 2.7 or higher.
3. Satisfactory test scores from the MAT or GRE. (To register for the test at ECU, call the Testing Center at 252- 328-6811.)
4. Three letters of recommendations from supervisors, former professors, and others who can attest to the applicant’s ability to do academic work and potential as a future adult educator.
5. Statement of purpose for seeking the graduate degree. Complete applications must be submitted to the Graduate School by February 1. FACS MAEd candidates are admitted for the Fall semester only.

Students must hold a current North Carolina teaching license and provide a copy for the application packet.
