Students must complete a standard curriculum for doctoral programs as stipulated by the Commission for the Accreditation of Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE). 

Theory:
CDFR 8402 Advanced Family Therapy Theories
Advanced family therapy theories and application seminar in healthcare systems.  Prerequisite: Admission to medical family therapy program.

Clinical Practice:
CDFR 7401 Introduction to Medical Family Therapy
Theory and practice seminar in medical family therapy.

CDFR 7409 Illness & Disability Across the Lifespan

Examines illness and disability interfaces across family lifespan.

CDFR 8403 Gender & Ethnicity in Medical Family Therapy
Gender and ethnicity issues seminar in medical family therapy. Prerequisite: Admission to medical family therapy program.

Clinical Supervision:
CDFR 7502 Family Therapy Supervision Methods and Practice
Didactic and interactional supervision. Emphasis on philosophy, application, and interpretation of family therapy skills and supervision concepts. Prerequisite: Admission to medical family therapy program or consent of instructor.

Research:
BIOS 7021 Biostatistics for Health Professionals I
Applies statistical methods to health sciences. Types, organization, and display of data; elementary probability; parametric and nonparametric techniques when dealing with one or two samples (matched and independent); one way ANOVA; and simple linear regression.  Prerequisite: MATH 1065 or consent of instructor.

BIOS 7022 Biostatistics for Health Professionals II
Continuation of BIOS 7021. Topics include ANOVA for multi-factor designs and analysis of single degree of freedom contrasts; randomized block and repeated measures designs; nonparametric methods for standard designs; multiple linear and logistic regression; and chi-square analysis of contingency tables.  Prerequisite: BIOS 7021 with a grade of B or better or consent of instructor.

CDFR 8400 Adv. Research Methods in Medical Fam. Therapy
Examination of qualitative and quantitative methods used in clinical research.  Prerequisite: CDFR 7400 or equivalent or consent of instructor.

NURS 7100 Qualitative Research: Analysis and Interpretation
Application and evaluation of qualitative research design and methods, including data collection, management, and analysis approaches, and the art and science of interpretation.  Prerequisite: NURS 8235 or consent of instructor.

HUMS 7004 Ethics & Research: Humanities & Basic Med. Sciences
Identifies some philosophical, moral, political, legal, and social issues associated with scientific research. Explores relationship between moral, legal, professional, social, and institutional responsibilities of working scientist. Develops critical skills for understanding and evaluating arguments, claims, and policies pertaining to moral, political, legal, and social aspects of research.

Cognates ( 6 s.h. approved graduate level courses)
Cognate courses are taken in addition to the core MedFT and MFT required courses and should relate to the study of health, wellness and/or collaboration across disciplines. Cognate courses are chosen by the student and approved by the student’s advisor.

Electives (6 s.h. approved graduate level courses)
Elective courses may be MedFT/ MFT, research, teaching (e.g., clinical skills with M1 or M2, or teaching of residents), or additional cognate courses.  Elective courses are chosen by the student and approved by the student’s advisor.

Clinical Practicum:
CDFR 8404 Medical Family Therapy Practicum I
Practicum experience in medical family therapy.  Prerequisite: Admission to medical family therapy program.

CDFR 8405 Medical Family Therapy Practicum II
Practicum experience in medical family therapy.  Prerequisite: Admission to medical family therapy program.

CDFR 8406 Medical Family Therapy Practicum III
Practicum experience in medical family therapy.  Prerequisite: Admission to medical family therapy program.

CDFR 8407 Medical Family Therapy Practicum IV
Practicum experience in medical family therapy.  Prerequisite: Admission to medical family therapy program.

Internship:
CDFR 8910/8911/8912 Family Therapy Research/Clinical Internship
Internship in medical family therapy. Prerequisite: Completion of majority of course work in medical family therapy program.

Dissertation:
CDFR 9000 Dissertation
May be repeated.  Minimum of 6 semester hours required.
