ECU Chapter of the Council on Family Relations
East Carolina University-Council on Family Relations is a student affiliate organization of the National Council on Family Relations. The ECU chapter is organized to provide opportunities for students to network within the community and the local organizations, to serve all types of families, the community, and the university, and to enhance the professional development of family and community service students. Students meet at regularly scheduled intervals throughout the academic year. Any student interested is welcome to join the ECU-CFR regardless of major. Students who minor in child development and family relations are most welcomed too. The Council on Family Relations volunteers with community organizations and activities. It participates in university functions such as homecoming. It sponsors an annual Internship Fair to provide ECU students with the opportunity to network with local agencies that provide internships for family and community service majors. At the ending of each semester, the membership honors its graduating seniors with hunter green cords representing their membership in the East Carolina University-Council on Family Relations.
The National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) provides a forum for family researchers, educators, and practitioners to share in the development and dissemination of knowledge about families and family relationships, establishes professional standards, and works to promote family well-being. Student memberships in NCFR are open to full-time students. More information about NCFR can be found at www.ncfr.com/about_us/index.asp or applications can be obtained in the department office.
