Student Experiences within the College of Human Ecology

Students within the College of Human Ecology are exposed to numerous unique experiences that may differ from just the regular “college” experiences. Our students have opportunities to study abroad, participate in various research activities and forums, experience volunteer and community outreach, join discipline specific student organizations, and work as interns in professional settings, just to name a few. Such experiences help combine the academic setting with “real world” environments to provide our students with a greater understanding of what exist outside of the classroom.

Study Abroad:
Our college and its various disciplines have offered numerous study abroad opportunities since its inception. Students have had the opportunity to travel to England, France, Switzerland, Italy, Turkey, and China. These trips focus on exposing students to different cultural elements of their specific discipline. For example Interior Design students may study architectural design in France, while Criminal Justice students study the differences in the judicial systems. Future trips are currently being planned please click here for more information.

  Research Activities:
Research activities for students within the College have always been an extremely important element. Throughout their time in college students are required to do various research projects for a specific class. But the programs within the College of Human Ecology make an effort to incorporate research activities across the curriculum. This means that students participate in activities that are not merely class specific but involve elements from numerous classes and knowledge of multiple concepts. This provides students an avenue in which students can draw from their collective knowledge. Such research activities may be entered into the University undergraduate and graduate research forums. Students in the college have continual won high praise and awards at these forums.

  Student Organizations:
Clubs, Organizations, and Greek life have always been an integral part of college life. We are proud to have a wide variety of student organizations available within the college. These organizations may be service, honor societies, or networking groups. They provide an outlet for students to potentially meet others in their discipline or who share similar interest. They provide a mechanism for fund raising activities, interaction with industry professionals, field trip opportunities, etc. Please click here if you would like to learn more about available student organizations within the college.

  Internships:
The majority of academic programs in the college require students to participate in professional internships prior to graduation. These internships vary as much as the different disciplines. Students work in fields that are directly related to their specific disciplines. Such internships may be with law enforcement agencies, health care facilities, resorts, public schools, and design firms, just to name a few. To learn more about specific program requirements or internships please visit the respective program pages.
