A 1995 graduate of the School of Social Work at East Carolina University, Dionne Dockery has continued to thrive in her chosen professional field. Since graduation Dionne has worked as a School Social Worker, Program Coordinator, Family Care Coordinator, and Maternal Outreach Supervisor. In her current position as a Maternal Outreach Supervisor for the Pitt County Health Center, she manages a team of professionals that provide outreach activities to women and families in the county.
Dionne’s memories of ECU and advice to current students “If I could go back in time I would go back to my college years at ECU. I can honestly say that had I known what I know now, I would have taken more time to enjoy ECU. I would have taken advantage of the opportunities that ECU offers such as studying abroad or participating in more activities on campus. Don't rush your college years; they are some of your best years.”
Since graduation, Dionne has been trained as a Mediation Facilitator in Emergency Preparedness and in Active Parenting of Teens Curriculum. These skills have enabled her to excel in public school settings, mediation centers, and public health agencies. She has served as a link between students’ families and school officials, promote and educate the public on peaceful conflict resolution, and work with programs that connect families to community resources.
