Our Mission |
The mission of the College of Human Ecology Academic Advising Center is to guide, serve and support students by partnering with academic departments and support services, to promote diverse educational experiences, and to foster professional success and responsible citizenship. |
The College of Human Ecology (CHE) Advising Center is the first stop for students planning to major in one of the ten undergraduate programs offered in the College. Students are advised by a professional advisor in the Center until they become eligible to declare their major. At that point, they move to a faculty advisor for assistance with their program of study. As rising seniors, students return to the Advising Center to prepare for graduation.
Advising is an interactive process involving students, advisers, faculty and administrators. The professional advisors in the CHE Advising Center guide the student toward appropriate decisions that will help them achieve academic and career goals.
The advising staff is prepared to assist students learn to navigate the policies and procedures of the University. This is accomplished through individual advising sessions, e-mail, group sessions and freshman seminar classes. The advisor teaches the student to use tools such as the Undergraduate Catalog and the ECU web page to locate information on degree requirements, deadlines, course registration, academic eligibility, calculation of grade point average, procedures for withdrawal and appeal policies.
Advisors also help students with non-academic issues that impact academic performance. The advisor is familiar with campus resources and may refer the student for assistance when the situation is beyond the scope of the services provided by the Center. The Advising Center works closely with other ECU Advising Centers as well as the Registrar's Office, Admissions Office, Financial Aid Office, First Year Center, Dean of Students, Counseling and Student Development Office, Student Health Services, Career Development Center, Continuing Studies, and Cashier's Office to help students find the resources they need to successfully complete their education.
