	History, Mission, and Vision of CHE

	History
	On July 1, 2003, the School of Human Environmental Sciences and the Carolyn Freeze Baynes School of Social Work and Criminal Justice Studies combined to form the College of Human Ecology. Both schools have long and proud traditions on campus. Although the School of Human Environmental Sciences was established by the Board of Trustees in 1968, the school's area of expertise has been part of ECU's curriculum since its earliest days. The Carolyn Freeze Baynes School of Social Work and Criminal Justice Studies traces its roots to 1968 when the board of trustees established the School of Allied Health and Social Professions. The school received funding in 1970 and began admitting students in 1971.

	The College of Human Ecology is widely recognized regionally, nationally and internationally for redefining higher education and preparing sought-after professionals who use their superior skills and experiential learning to enrich the lives of individuals, families and communities. Renowned as a model of progressive research, innovative teaching and state-of-the-art facilities, CHE is highly regarded for positively impacting the interface of individuals and their environment and making a real difference in the quality of life for people and communities. We are the college of choice for students of Human Ecology.
