Vicki Gordon Lectures on Women in Business

Greenville, NC - Vicki Gordon, senior vice president corporate affairs for the American Division of InterContinental Hotels Group, will present “Career Building and Women in Business” on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at 6:00 p.m. in the Mendenhall Student Center Great Room. Ms. Gordon will discuss careers in hospitality in 2008 and the future. She will also share her insights as a women executive in corporate America.
   
GordonMs. Gordon joined InterContinental Hotels Group in 1989 as regional director of field marketing. Since then she has held positions of increasing responsibility within the company, including leadership roles in consumer marketing, new product development, brand management and environmental programs.

She serves on the boards of the Roosevelt Warm Springs Development Fund, Literacy Action, and the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau. She is past chair of the board of the Southeast Chapter for the U.S. Fund for UNICEF; past chair of the National Hotel Alliance; and incoming chair of the Women in Lodging Council of the American Hotel & Lodging Association. She is also an ex-Officio member of the Georgia Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities.

A 2004 graduate of Leadership Atlanta, she has been named one of “Twenty Women Who Make a Difference” by Minorities and Women in Business magazine, one of the “Most Powerful Women in Travel” by Travel Agent magazine and one of Atlanta Woman magazine’s “Power Women in Atlanta” 2007.

In 2005, she led IHG’s global tsunami relief efforts and was recognized by the Australia-New Zealand-America Chamber of Commerce for her humanitarian work. She also created and has been the driving force behind the innovative and unique Designs of Hope fundraiser, with monies raised for UNICEF to benefit orphans and children made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS. During the five-year run of Designs of Hope, the event raised more than $5 million for UNICEF.

Ms. Gordon’s presentation is part of a week of events sponsored by the Department of Hospitality Management. The week also includes the Hospitality Management Career Fair at the Greenville Convention Center on February 13.
