Thank you for your interest in the Department of Hospitality Management (HMGT) at East Carolina University. Our program was established in 1987 and is now the largest hospitality management department in North Carolina and one of the largest in the Southeastern United States, enrolling approximately 300 students. Students have the opportunity to complete both the bachelor of science in hospitality management and the MBA with the hospitality management option in only five years, an opportunity that is unique to ECU in the state and southeast.

In addition to a fine education, ECU’s hospitality management students have significant work experience. All students are required to complete externships during their sophomore year and to complete a management internship in the industry before their senior year, making them ready to enter the job market. HMGT students are in demand by industry recruiters and are placed in management positions across the country with companies such as Aramark, Hyatt, Westin, Marriott, Hilton Golden Corral, Ruby Tuesday and others. 

Our program blends a fine academic classroom experience with applied experiences that include numerous field trips around the state and region and attendance at national conferences such as the National Restaurant Show, the International Hotel and Restaurant Show, and the National Society for Minorities in Hospitality.
