On-line Master of Science in Criminal Justice
The program emphasizes both criminal justice practice and criminal justice administration. The program requires 39 semester hours (s.h.).The practice component focuses on specific methods, techniques, and skills utilized when interacting with police officers, probation and parole officers, mediators, guardians ad litem, and attorneys.The administration component focuses on the formulation and implementation of policies, laws, and management issues such as decision making, fiscal responsibility, program evaluation, and performance evaluation.Systematic issues that impact the operations of criminal justice agencies also are emphasized.

Admissions

Candidates seeking admission into the graduate program must fulfill the general requirements of the Graduate School. These criteria include:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited academic institution
  • A minimum overall undergraduate grade point average or 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Satisfactory entrance examination scores are required on the GRE or MAT. (TOEFL may be required)

Applicants are required to submit a completed Graduate School Application Package, as well as a detailed resume (curriculum vitae), statement of purpose, transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities, and three letters of reference to the East Carolina University Graduate School.

Enrollment is limited and admissions will be competitive. Multiple selection criteria will be used, including GPA, entrance examination scores, prior academic preparation, statement of purpose, quality of references and prior work or volunteer experiences.
