Study Abroad Program

The world continues to grow smaller as increased emphasis on globalization encourages students to understand international issues.   The College of Human Ecology offers a summer study abroad program through all five of its academic departments.  This interdisciplinary course is designed for students and professionals at all levels, who are unable to spend an entire semester abroad. This course takes place during May each year. Specific aims of the course are to compare and contrast academic discipline systems of the United States with that of another country, and to expose students to different cultural and social experiences.

The International Study Abroad program for  the College of Human Ecology is listed in the course catalog. These courses seek to expand the horizons of our graduate, undergraduate and professionals seeking continuing education units (CEU) for professional development and certification to better prepare them for professional life by exposing them to various philosophies, practices, and cultures of the world. We invite you to learn more about our program from the links provided and hope that you will accompany us on one of our many trips abroad.

ECU students in other disciplines can take this course as an elective for 3 or 6 hours of credit. Please consult with your academic advisor.

History of the Program

Dr. Peter Johnstone started the International Study Abroad program in the summer of 2003. Dr. Johnstone's passion was to give every student an international experience by studying abroad. Students flew to London, England and spent ten days in London and three days in Paris, France.   Students were able to meet and spend time with professionals in various fields of Human Ecology, visit art and design museums, and sample different cultural foods.
