Greenville, NC—The College of Human Ecology held its Appreciation Celebration 2008 on Saturday, February 16, at Rock Springs Conference Center in Greenville. The college’s six academic units honored alumni and friends who have distinguished themselves professionally and who have donated their time, talents, and/or funds to benefit academic programs and students.
Interim Dean Margie Gallagher presented Greenville Mayor Patricia C. Dunn with the Dean’s Choice Award and Greenville Councilwoman Rose Glover with the Community Engagement Award for their support to the college and the City of Greenville in establishing the Lucille W. Gorham Intergenerational Center in west Greenville.
The Department of Child Development and Family Relations honored Rebecca Payne, state director of career and technical education, as outstanding alumnus and Doug Smith, chief executive officer of Greene County Health Care, as outstanding friend.
The Department of Criminal Justice honored Altrice Gales, criminal justice instructor at Pitt Community College and ECU, as outstanding alumnus and Dr. David Stevens, ECU’s first attorney and a former faculty member, as outstanding friend.
The Department of Hospitality Management selected Eric Mason, vice president world-wide research and development, Pacific, for Global RCI, as outstanding alumnus; and James Maynard, co-founder and chairman of Investors Management Corporation’s subsidiary, Golden Corral Corporation, as outstanding friend.
The Department of Interior Design and Merchandising selected Keri Wilder, associate at Phillips Architecture in Raleigh, as outstanding alumnus; and Laurel Wright, chief accessibility code consultant for the NC State Fire Marshal, as outstanding friend.
The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics selected Melanie Rogers, executive director of food and nutrition for Wellstar Health System in Georgia, as outstanding alumnus; and Kathryn Kolasa, professor and section head, nutrition education services at East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine as outstanding friend.
The School of Social Work recognized Glenn Buck, chief clinical officer of Port Human Services in Greenville as outstanding alumnus; Cassandra Campbell, lead school social worker for Pitt County Schools, as outstanding friend; and Karen Koch, assistant director of mental health education for Eastern Area Health Education Center (AHEC) in Greenville, as outstanding friend.
