MS-DI APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR
East Carolina University
Thank you for your interest in East Carolina University. Please follow the directions and provide the specified application materials to the proper locations. Failure to complete the application process disqualifies applications. If you are admitted to the combined Masters-Internship, you will know before January 31st. MINIMUM ADMISSION STANDARDS
- Grade point average of 3.0 or higher overall.
- Verbal and quantitative scores at or above the 30%tile on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE).
- All application materials complete and mailed in one packet.
- All recency of education requirements met.
RECENCY OF EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Additional courses in dietetics or a related area are required to update a degree which was completed five (5) or more years prior to the current application postmark deadline.
Courses taken to satisfy the requirements must be completed at a U.S. regionally accredited college or university. A transcript verifying completion of the courses with a grade of “C” or better, must accompany the dietetic internship program packet. Only courses completed within the last five (5) years are acceptable.
5 - 10 years 6 semester or 9 quarter hours. An official transcript verifying completion of the courses with a grade of “C” or better must accompany the application packet.
10 years or longer Meet current Didactic Program in Dietetics requirements with no fewer than 12 semester hours. A new Verification Statement with original signature of the Program Director and a transcript documenting completion of required courses must be submitted with the dietetic internship application packet.
Take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) in time to include the scores in your Dietetic Internship Application. If you must repeat the test, it must be before the matching decisions are made in late March. GRE scores must equal 30% or higher in Math and in Verbal.
Obtain 2 sets of original transcripts from each college or university attended.Request early, so that they are received before you send the application. These should be included in officially sealed envelopes from the university. One set is for the Graduate School, one for the Dietetic Internship.
Select three (3) persons who will complete a Recommendation Form for you. We suggest you provide two (2) recommendations from faculty and one (1) from an employer. Those persons should provide details about your strengths and weaknesses related to your ability to complete this post-baccalaureate supervised practice program in dietetics.
For financial aid, only FULL-TIME GRADUATE STUDENTS ARE ELIGIBLE. Contact the ECU Office of Financial Aid at (252) 328-6610. The accredited dietetic internship allows you to defer student loans while enrolled as a full-time graduate student.

Complete the Dietetic Internship Program application: http://www.ecu.edu/che/nutr/docs/application.rtf . Download to your desktop and edit the form for printing. Word process only. Include from your Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) Director either:
- Intent to Complete Degree form indicating the planned date and remaining list of courses.
- Verification Statement of Completion of Didactic Program in Dietetics form.
Cover Letter: Describe the reasons for your interest in becoming a registered dietitian, the reasons you are interested in the East Carolina University Dietetic Internship Program, your career goals for the next five years, and what you expect to learn or gain from this program. Please sign your letter.
Include a set of official transcripts, GRE scores, and 3 recommendation letters (copies
of those used for the Graduate School.)
Track preferences. List your preferences for Track placement on a sheet of paperwith your name on it; include with your application. Rank them 1-10, with 1 being your top choice.
After admission to the internship, interns have the opportunity to interview with track supervisors prior to placement. Phone interviews will be scheduled.
