       Dietetic Internship
The dietetic internship in the Department of Nutrition Science is an accredited program that qualifies graduates for the national Registration Examination for Dietitians. Successful completion of the examination allows students to become eligible to be licensed as dietitians in North Carolina and other states. Program outcomes data are available upon request. The Program follows the University calendar, starting in summer session 2 with full-time students finishing the following spring semester.
 
Eligibility:
Undergraduate degree from accredited didactic program in dietetics (DPD program)+ original, recent Verification Statement .

 

 
Selection Criteria:
GPA > 3.0, GRE scores, work and volunteer experience, letters of recommendation, personal letter.
All applicants, degree or non-degree seeking, must apply to the Graduate School as well as the internship. Once accepted into the internship program, interns are placed in a single county with affiliating hospitals, schools, wellness sites, and public health departments in communities throughout eastern North Carolina.
Course Requirements:
All dietetic interns complete 9 credits that are eligible toward a graduate degree.
-- Nine hours of graduate internship practicum courses: (NUTR 6031, 6032, 6033). Also interns take an Orientation and a Staff Relief course.

--1,200 hours of supervised practice, meeting expectations of the Commission on Accreditation of Dietetics Education (CADE.) The Dietetic Internship also requires on-campus Orientation and monthly class day attendance.
Admission Requirements:
Application updates are available beginning in August on-line. A completed application includes all official transcripts, 3 letters of references using ADA format, and responses to interview questions in a personal letter. Application Postmark Deadlines:
December 1 for combined internship-masters program (Pre-select option)
February 15 for internship only (D & D Digital computer matching)

 
Applicant Responsibilities:
(1) Intent to Complete Degree Form or a DPD Verification Statement with original signature in blue ink from your didactic program director;
(2) a minimum GPA of 3.0 overall and (3) a combined verbal and quantitative score greater than 30%tile on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE.)
 
Program Expectations:
Photocopies are not accepted. Application materials are NOT returned to the applicant; request transcripts from all universities attended.
