Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics
A degree in nutrition and dietetics provide many opportunities to students. After completing an internship you can become a registered dietitian (RD). Dietitians and nutritionists are professionals who translate the science of nutrition into information and practices people can use to enhance their health and well-being. Being an RD today means opportunities to work in hospitals, in schools and universities, with food companies, with sports teams, in wellness centers to name a few. A nutrition and dietetics degree is also an excellent major for pre-professional students.

To become fully qualified in dietetics, you must become a registered dietitian (RD). This credential requires:
  • A baccalaureate degree and a verification form indicating completion of a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education.
  • Verification of completion of an accredited supervised practice program.
  • Successful completion of the Registration Examination for Dietitians, a national examination.
Some programs combine the supervised practice program with an undergraduate or graduate degree.  Typically, you can meet the requirements for the national examination by completing the BS degree in nutrition and dietetics and the dietetic internship at East Carolina University within four years of study and one year of supervised practice.
