Why did you choose ECU?
I chose ECU because it is the school I grew up loving and the one my father attended.
Were you are transfer student? If so, from where?
Why did you choose your major?
I wanted to help kids better understand nutrition because I grew up without any nutrition knowledge even though I wanted to know more.
What would you tell potential students who are considering your major?
I would tell potential students that it is a long hard road, but well worth the work.
Have you participated in any internship or undergraduate research opportunities? If so, describe.
I completed my undergraduate research project by creating and implementing a curriculum for preschoolers. This research won several awards and national presentations.
What other activities are you involved with at ECU (social clubs, student organizations, etc.) and/or the community?
I was selected as the student representative for the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEN) and the student advisory council for The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
Do you have any other hobbies/interests?
I love boating and restoration (not too old) projects.
What is your best ECU memory?
Working on my undergraduate research and seeing under-privileged preschoolers have the opportunity to try new and healthy foods.
How has your experience(s) at ECU changed you?
Through my time here, I have become more motivated to achieve higher goals. I never dreamed about working towards a PhD before coming to college.
What are your future plans (grad school, job, travel, etc.)
I am completing dual master’s programs. One in Nutrition Science and the other in Adult Education. I plan to obtain a PhD in education to later become a faculty member at the state university.
What would be your dream job?
Becoming a faculty member at a state school and working as a dietetic internship director.
