this course is an introduction to a visual merchandising and planning software called Tex-Store made by Koppermann. Students will learn how simulate a virtual store in an inexpensive and efficient manner. In addition, students will create their own signage and garments that will be displayed in the store. They will be able to evaluate if the visual display is creating the desired visual impact and if the merchandise mix is appropriate for the floor plan. |

| Students enrolled in the Visual Merchandising (MRCH 3400) class are working with several local retailers to set up displays within the stores. This is a hands-on learning experience for the students. The stores students are working with Spring 2009 semester are: Catalog Connection, Pier 1 Imports, Express, Stein Mart, Victoria's Secret, My Favorite Place, Monkee's, Lula Belles, Pizzaz (non-profit store in Smithfield), Fabrics and Home Furnishings, and Claire's. Mentor an undergraduate student enrolled in the USDA Leadership Program. The objective of the student enrolled in this course is to work with a faculty and a community mentor to help identify a project which would help benefit the community through service learning. The student is working with the Family Violence Program of Pitt County on various projects to help the organization. In addition, research is being done to evaluate if there is demand for a used furniture store in Greenville, NC. |
