Presented Banff, Alberta The Eighth International Interdisciplinary Conference Canada Photographs as data are more frequently discussed in ethnographic research than in Phenomenology. The purpose of this presentation was to discuss why photographs provide quality sources of data for phenomenological researchers, the use of historical photographs, the analysis of photographs and co-construction of meaning, the pragmatic issues related to photographs as a data source, and the ethical issues related to photographs. The presentation was illustrated with photographs used by the authors in research studies and qualitatitve coursework.
