The collaborative is a partnership with six other social work programs at state supported universities in North Carolina. Our mission is to educate and prepare BSW and MSW students to work in child welfare in local North Carolina County Departments of Social Services. The primary task of a child welfare social worker is to ensure the safety of children. Social workers work in one of five functions in the local DSS: intake, Assessment/investigations, case planning/case management, and foster care or adoptions.
Students may apply for the child welfare collaborative after acceptance into their respective program. BSW students must have a classification as a junior to be prior to acceptance. To apply fill out the appropriate application: BSW or MSW. After acceptance students must remain in good academic status and not receive a grade less than a "B" (MSW students) or maintain a 3.0 GPA in the major (BSW students).
The Collaborative provides in-state tuition for all participating students. Full-time students receive a service award, and part-time students are reimbursed for book and travel expenses. After receiving your degree, students are required to provide a year of service in child welfare at a North Carolina Department of Social Services or in the State Division of Social Services for every year or partial year financial support was received. |
