 Social Work: Resources

The School of Social Work provides numerous resources to assist in the learning process as well as provide memorable experiences for students. Such resources include the Field Education Office, the Social Work Skills Lab, and the Honors Program, just to name a few. These resources are utilized by most, if not all students, at some point in their academic career as a social work student. The physical location of the Field Office and the Skills lab are located in the Rivers building in close proximity to many social work faculty members’ offices.

Field Education
The Field Education Office is located in Room 221 in the Rivers Building.  The Field Office works with both BSW and MSW students, developing internship opportunities and placing students in agencies and programs to complete their field internships.  Field Office faculties provide orientation, training, and support for students and agency field supervisors.  The Field Office plays a critical role in assuring that students receive supervised, experiential learning in their internships to assist in their future success as professional social workers.

  NC Child Welfare Education Collaborative
The collaborative is a partnership with six other social work programs at state supported universities in North Carolina. Our mission is to educate and prepare BSW and MSW students to work in child welfare in local North Carolina County Departments of Social Services. The primary task of a child welfare social worker is to ensure the safety of children.  Social workers work in one of five functions in the local DSS: intake, Assessment/investigations, case planning/case management, and foster care or adoptions.

Skills Lab
The Social Work skills lab is utilized for instruction and practice of certain skills social workers need to be effective. The lab has video equipment for taping and reviewing certain activities that students participate in. It is also utilized for group seminars and discussions pertaining to the practice of social work. The skills lab is located in the Rivers building room 230.
