MissionThe East Carolina University Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Pirate Battalion recruits, retains, develops, and graduates leaders who are mentally, physically, emotionally, and morally ready to serve our Nation as commissioned officers in the United States Army. The program consists of a two-year basic course which is normally taken during the freshman and sophomore years in college. The basic course is followed by a two-year advanced course which includes a 32 day summer camp prior to the final year. The “Pirate Way” consists of helping our Cadets achieve their personal goals by utilizing the following leadership training and development settings and methods:

The end state is that the Pirate Battalion graduates leaders who are: Selfless – Completely dedicated to serving their Nation Caring – Completely committed to taking care of their Soldiers Morally and Ethically Grounded – Men and women of integrity Smart, Tough, and Physically Fit - Prepared for the demanding challenges of the modern battlefield Disciplined, Decisive Decision-Makers Mentally Quick and Agile – Able to plan and execute complex operations and adjust on the fly as necessary Imbued with the Warrior Ethos – They will never quit, never accept defeat, never leave a fallen comrade behind, and they will ALWAYS accomplish the mission |
