MAED IN EDUCATION AL SUPERVISION (LEVEL I)

The program for preparation of school supervisors is characterized by flexibility, individualization, and personalization to allow for differences in the capabilities, experiences, and educational backgrounds of candidates. Provision is made for the determination of entry-level competencies, the development of individualized courses of study based on initial competencies, and exit evaluation to ensure minimum-level competencies for job entry and licensure.

For the degree in supervision (Curriculum-Instructional Specialist I Certificate), the candidate must hold a North Carolina initial certificate and must complete a minimum of 33 s.h. of course work.

MSA

The master of school administration  degree program leads to licensure in both administration and supervision  (curriculum instructional specialist), level I.  The program is designed to produce school leaders who will promote quality learning.  Five areas of leadership studies comprise the degree program: strategic, managerial, organizational, political, and instructional.  MBA students interested in pursuing the MBA with the school business management option must take LEED 6804, 6807, 7408, and 7470 as electives in the MBA program.  A certificate of completion will be issued by the School of Education.  Other graduate students interested in taking these electives must confer with the program director of the respective schools.  Ongoing assessment, problem-based learning, and practica experiences are special features of the 38 s.h. program.  Principal fellowships for qualified candidates help support full-time study.

EDS IN EDUCATIONAL ADMINISTRATION AND SUPERVISION

The School of Education offers a sixth-year program in educational administration and supervision.  For admission to the Graduate School for the purpose of pursuing the educational specialist degree and licensure as Administrator II, a master's degree and licensure as Administrator I are required. For admission to the Graduate School for the purpose of pursuing the educational specialist degree and licensure as Curriculum-Instructional Specialist II, a master's degree and licensure as Curriculum-Instructional Specialist I are required.

EDD IN EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP

The doctor of education degree  (EdD) is offered by the School of Education under the direction of the Department of Educational Leadership.  There are two concentration areas in the degree, one in school upper-level administration (K-12) and another in higher education administration. 

A master's degree with a minimum 3.5 GPA in all graduate work is required for admission, along with a successful  score on the Graduate Record Examinations or the Miller Analogy Test.  For further information, contact the coordinator of the program.  An interview is required.

A total of 60 s.h. beyond the master's degree is required for completion of the school upper-level administration  concentration, distributed as follows: 24 s.h. leadership core, 12 s.h. research; 12 s.h. approved minor; 6 s.h. internship; 6 s.h. dissertation.  A maximum of 12 s.h. credit may be approved for transfer.

The higher education administration concentration requires a minimum of 60 s.h. beyond the master's degree.  The hours are distributed as follows: 18 s.h. required courses, 18 s.h. approved minor, 12 s.h. research, 6 s.h internship, and 6 s.h. dissertation. A maximum of 12 s.h. credit may be approved for transfer.

The program requires one full year of residency and the completion of a research-based dissertation.  Information about fellowships is available from the program office.
