DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY

BA IN PHILOSOPHY

Minimum degree requirement is 126 s.h. of credit as follows:

1.	General education (See Section 6, Undergraduate Studies, Requirements for Baccalaureate Degree Programs.).	42 s.h.
2.	Foreign language through level 1004.	12 s.h.
3.	Core. Choose a minimum of 12 s.h. of PHIL above 2999 The department encourages majors to enroll in junior-senior courses as soon as they are eligible.	30 s.h.
4.	Minor and electives to complete requirements for graduation.

PHILOSOPHY MINOR

The philosophy minor requires 24 s.h. credit. While there are no required courses, a minimum of 9 s.h. of the 24 s.h. must be above PHIL 2999.

PHILOSOPHY HONORS PROGRAM

The purpose of junior-senior honors in philosophy is to encourage independent research and scholarship and to give students an opportunity to better prepare themselves for graduate study. Under the direction of one member of the department, a student enrolled in this program (PHIL 3550, 4550) carries on studies (as based on a reading list), prepares for a comprehensive examination at the end of the junior year, and writes a thesis during the first semester of the senior year.
