Academic Outreach EventsOut and AboutEach semester Academic Outreach hosts Out and About Training. You can sign up for group training or on-on-one training in person or virtually. Visit the website for more information: www.ecu.edu/academicoutreach/outabout.cfmAnnual DE DayAcademic Outreach has sponsored three Annual DE Days for Distance Education Students. We have collaborated with athletics so that we can host an event that allows our distance education students to actually come to campus and feel like a part of the ECU Community. They are welcomed with special recognition over the jumbotron/PA system, during one of our football or baseball games. An email is sent out to all DE students informing them of the upcoming event to give them the opportunity to register for discounted tickets and receive goody bags. We ask all the colleges/schools to participate by coming to our registration table and welcome their students to the ECU campus. For more information, or contact Kim Wilson at wilsonki@ecu.edu. CamtasiaAcademic Outreach Technology Services supports campus-wide training of Camtasia, which includes technical training and pedagogical use of the software. ECU faculty members use Camtasia to produce instructional videos for course material in both DE courses and face-to-face courses. Camtasia training is now covered during the Out and About sessions, along with group training we offer each semester. For more information, contact Ginny Sconiers at sconiersg@ecu.edu or John Southworth at southworthj@ecu.edu. Live DE Student ForumAO held its first LIVE DE Student Forum in March, 2009.DE Students tuned in live, via Centra, to talk to our Provost, Marilyn Sheerer, and to get useful information on Financial Aid and Career Services. Bettie Westbrook, Associate Director of Financial Aid, presented information on how to apply for Financial Aid, the different types of aid, deadlines, and how to ensure you successfully complete the financial aid maze for the upcoming academic year. Jim McAtee, from the Career Center, discussed resources they have to offer through their web site, phone appointments, virtual handouts, and technologies that can be accessed from anywhere. A live question and answer session followed each forum. The students that participated attended the entire forum and the discussions were very lively and informative. The student comments regarding the forum were very positive. They requested that AO provide more of these in the future.
